Cinnamon Sunset
16" x 20"
One afternoon , I was happily painting a colourful garden scene while my dinner simmered in the kitchen. I'd prepared a stew, rich with spices--cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cumin and loads of garlic. These exotic smells soon engulfed me, taking back to my time in the far East and jolting me right out of my English-country garden mood.

Before I realized what I was doing, I tossed aside my canvas of pastel flowers, threw a blank canvas onto my easel, squirted out these delicious spice colours onto my palette and set to work.
I don't actually recall the details of this painting session, other than I'm sure I was grinning like a fool as I was painted. When I do these palette Asian themed paintings, I am deep into the creative side where thought, editing and logic are out the window and the picture sort of paints itself. It is quite remarkable when this happens.
It's clear to me that my time in Asia impacted me enormously, given the number of Asian themed paintings I do.
For me, the scent of that delicious combination of spices tossed me back tony time in Asia, and from those memories sprang 'Cinnamon Sunset.'
This is an acrylic painting on canvas, done with a palette knife.
