A New Start
18" x 24"
The cruciform is my favourite abstract shape and I can't seem to get enough of them! Lately I have I begun an abstract and told myself NOT to do a cruciform, and the next thing I know, it's a cruciform. So I have s(mostly) topped telling myself what to do, as it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. The brain wants what the brain wants.

'A New Start 'began with random layers of gel and medium. Then when it was dry, I worked up a warm base, using nickel ago gold and titanium white, and let that dry. Then, using only pyrolle red, nickel azo gold, white, and a mix of colour to get my black, I just let loose with a palette knife. This painting actually took a long time to complete as it got stuck in the cranky 'toddler' stage and just would not behave. This happens to me often, when something isn't working and needs attention. but I really don't know what it is asking for. Sometimes it has to sit for days until I pick it up and have another go and that is what happened here. It took three 'starts' and then I was done.
This is an acrylic/mixed media painting done on canvas.
